Waffles and Mochi on Netflix is underrated: Why you need to watch

Waffles and Mochistarring Michelle Obama, premiered on Netflix on March 16, 2021, to amazing reviews and feedback from both audiences and critics. Still, we feel it needs way more attention!

If you haven’t watched the children’s cooking series, you’re missing out. No, really, you are! Don’t be fooled by the genre “children’s cooking” series, Waffles and Mochi is for everyone! And, I’ll admit, I’m part of the reason the show is so underrated.

To be honest, I didn’t watch Waffles and Mochi until this past weekend (March 20), so I’m late to the game and you are free to shame me! The thing is, I didn’t think my kids (ages 4 and 7)  would be very interested in it! And I wasn’t going to watch it alone, as much as I love Michelle Obama.

But my seven-year-old stumbled upon it while on his Netflix profile and asked if he could watch it. And what do you know? They loved it and so did I!

Why you need to watch Waffles and Mochi on Netflix

Waffles and Mochi is modern, yet feels nostalgic. I think this is because it’s so sweet, innocent, and educational, like good old children programming used to be.

It’s refreshing and feels so great to see the kids enjoy a show that’s not like the others. My kids are also extremely picky, but they actually showed interest in trying some of the food! They asked if I could also make “tomato candy” and the pasta recipe one episode featured.

If you can get my picky eaters to try new foods, you are instantly my new best friend!

The series also keeps kids (and adults) engaged with fun facts and research. The celebrity guests, including Zach Galifianakis and Katie LeClerc, are also fun to spot.

At the time of this writing, the streaming titan has not yet renewed the series, but we are keeping our fingers crossed. If Waffles and Mochi does return for season 2, I just hope Mrs. Obama stars in it again!
