When it comes to must watch moments on Hell’s Kitchen, we are always eagerly waiting for the arrival of the black jackets. And after last week’s episode, where the five was revealed and the black jackets were handed out, we had some high expectations for episode 13, “It’s Time.”

Of course, just because those black jackets are in play, it doesn’t necessarily mean that dinner service will be a success. In fact, while Cody seemed to start things off strong on the meat section with the help of Mary Lou (who he is clearly sweet on) who seems to be primarily working on garnish, over on the fish section things are not so great.

Not only did Declan have a mishap with crab cakes going up cold, but Amber once again struggled with getting the fish done right. In fact, at one point there were four people at her station and that was the last thing Gordon Ramsay wants to see.

Mind you, we love when Ramsay flips his lid because that level of drama and perfectionism is the highlight of our night. But when it comes to dinner service, it would be nice if the first black jacket service was more of a success than we saw. And sure, things ended well, but it was definitely a rocky start.

Maybe the most surprising moments of the episode had to do with Cody. Not only did his boo Mary Lou not pick him to go with her for her reward earlier in the day, but when it came time to nominate the weakest chef on the team, his name was thrown into the ring.

Cody was clearly not the weakest link in the episode and honestly he hasn’t really been a weak link this entire time. Of course, it didn’t take long for Amber to try throwing him and Mary Lou under the bus by saying that the only reason he was safe was because Mary Lou was sweet on him. Whether or not it was true, Amber was a mess and she deserved to go before Gordon Ramsay to plead for a chance to stay in Hell’s Kitchen.

And while Declan had his moments, he was far from the worst chef in the kitchen. So is it any surprise that it was ultimately Amber who went home? Honestly, it feels like it was about time. She should have gone home before this, in fact, I would say the wrong chef got the last black jacket in the last episode.

Hopefully the next dinner service in Hell’s Kitchen is more successful. Maybe the team will actually come together and get their cooking done.
