Hell’s Kitchen: Young Guns is back after a two week break for the Olympics in Tokyo and they came back with a gameshow like challenge we are obsessed with.

One of the things we love about Hell’s Kitchen is the fact that we get to see our chef’s get creative during the rewards challenges. This is their time to shine and show Chef Ramsey that they have skills that go beyond recreating his menu of dishes.

And in the latest reward challenge, Spells Kitchen, we got to see our chefs unscrambling words (specifically food words). Every time they unscrambled an ingredient, they would be able to attach that to either their own dishes (the specific proteins each team had to use) or place it on the protein on the other side. This was as much a chance to see what ingredients the chefs would pair with proteins as it was a chance at sabotage.

It’s game show challenge time on Hell’s Kitchen and knowing ingredients is a key to success

Besides being quick on the button, it was also important for our chefs to know ingredients that might be paired with proteins. Spelling is key, but in word scrambles it often feels like you also need to know what the word could be. (Not always easy, but in this case it actually is.)

One thing I noticed in this challenge was that Antonio was an epic challenger. And it made me realize that while we were not the biggest fans of him at the beginning of the season, we actually like him a lot more now. He actually does seem to know his stuff. He knows how to put together delicious dishes, and he only seems to be cocky when he has a reason to be.

It was definitely eye-opening watching him take on Spells Kitchen because he was able to show off a knowledge and skill that we don’t always see from him. It was a nice surprise.

The bummer of this challenge was that his skills kind of went to waste as his team did not deliver in the same way that he did and ultimately it was the blue team that came out on top.
