Crime Scene Kitchen remains one of the best and most unique cooking competition shows around. What other show are you going to watch bakers search a used kitchen for clues about what was made and then try to make it? The premise, the judges Yolanda Gamp and Curtis Stone, and the host, Joel McHale, all make this show the best.

But the contestants in the first season also had a big hand in what made the show so great as well. There were fun, quirky, and easy to root for. No one was there “not to make friends.” But if you watched the first season and saw a few contestants who looked familiar, you wouldn’t be wrong.

More from Food TV

Thomas McCurdy was one contestant that you might have recognized. Why? According to Mashed, it’s because he was on an episode of Chopped Sweets in 2020.

The Food Network show was just like the original Chopped but with all desserts. He actually won the episode titled “Dessert for Breakfast.”

Some Crime Scene Kitchen contestants might’ve seemed familiar

If you saw his skills on Crime Scene Kitchen, it’s easy to see why he won. He has SKILLS! While he and his mom didn’t win, they came very close by being in the top three in the finale.

Another contestant you might have recognized from Food Network is Lorie Burcham. She and her husband were on Crime Scene Kitchen together and also made it to the finale. Well, Lorie was also on an episode of Food Network Challenge: Extreme Alien Cakes in 2011.

She created a lime green alien-shaped cake with tentacles and special effects. Clearly, she had amazing cake skills years before Crime Scene Kitchen. She ended up coming in third on that show.

If we get a season 2 of Crime Scene Kitchen (fingers crossed), it will be interesting to see if any of the new contestants are also from other cooking contest shows. Only time (and Fox renewing the show) will tell.
