Hell’s Kitchen Young Guns: Say hello to The Final 3
By D. Goodman
Last week Chef Gordon Ramsay handed out the now iconic black jackets to the five chefs he felt had the best chance to win Hell’s Kitchen Young Guns. It’s a big moment each season and one that the chefs know can change the course of their career.
Brynn, Megan, Steven, Kiya and Trenton didn’t have much time to celebrate their victory however. Hell’s Kitchen waits for no one and there were challenges to try and conquer and the all important Dinner Service to deal with.
Thanks to a quirk in the Fox schedule, fans got a double dose of Hell’s Kitchen Young Guns this week which meant by the end of the night, not one but two chefs would be given their walking papers and sent home. It also meant we would all know who the Final 3 would be going into the penultimate episode of Season 20.
The first episode featured the first individual challenge and it was all about the visuals of food. With foodies posting pictures of their food to Instagram constantly, it is more important then ever that food looks as good as it tastes. So the chefs were challenged with making a dish that was visually stunning as well as delicious.
Two chefs on Hell’s Kitchen Young Guns are clearly the ones to beat.
Once the cooking was done, Chef Ramsay posted pictures of all the dishes to his social media and let his 7.5 million followers decide which one they liked the best. That was followed by guest judge Ludo Lefebvre and Ramsay evaluating each dish and grading it on a scale of one to five.

In the end Trenton and Megan tied with a perfect score of 10. That left it up to Ramsay’s followers to pick the winner and they gave the victory to Trenton.
Dinner Service later that night was honestly about as drama free as any that fans have seen on Hell’s Kitchen. There were a few small issues but overall the chefs showed why they each deserved a black jacket and the service was a huge success.
Which meant choosing someone to send home was not going to be easy. The chefs chose to send Steven and Brynn up for elimination and in a surprise move, Ramsay sent Steven packing. My immediate reaction was that Chef Ramsay had made a huge mistake seeing as Steven was a strong competitor with tons of potential. But by now we should all be used to him sending the wrong chef home for the wrong reasons.
For the second episode of the night the four remaining chefs had to create barbecue for the guests of the beach party that had been created in front of Hell’s Kitchen, with real sand. Trenton got his second win in a row with his barbecued salmon so he and a guest, who turned out to be Megan, got to go on a shopping spree. That left Brynn and Kiya to get rid of all that sand and complain about Trenton and his front runner status while they did it.
Dinner Service included the Hell’s Kitchen tradition of each chef having a chance to run the pass and deal with not only running the brigade but finding the sabotage sprinkled throughout the orders. Surprisingly everyone had issues except Megan, who was the only one to catch all the sabotage and keep the chefs organized. Brynn and Kiya each broke down in tears while Trenton missed issues with the dishes and became very obnoxious with the chefs.
Later that night Ramsay asked each chef why they belonged there and after a lot of thought, he finally sent home Brynn, who honestly should have gone home long before now.
Of the three chefs that are left it’s fairly obvious that it’s between Trenton and Megan for the chance to become Chef Ramsay’s protege. Kiya is a good chef but she still has a lot to learn about the type of food served at the level demanded of a chef at Hell’s Kitchen.
