In a video shared to the Frito-Lay Instagram account on October 26, we get to watch a Snack’d demonstration of how easy it is to make Scary Good Popcorn Balls, even if it is a last minute treat. And that also meant that we had to track down the recipe. Luckily for us, the Smartfood website has an entire collection of recipes for us to browse through and this spooky offering was front and center.
Since this is the spooky season, you should be able to get your hands on all the necessary ingredients if you don’t have them already. And yes, this is definitely a sweet and savory treat that will satisfy your Halloween needs.
So how do we make these Scary Good Popcorn Balls from Smartfood? And what all do we need?
Smartfood’s recipe for Scary Good Popcorn Balls this Halloween
What you need:
- 1/2 cup of the Smartfood Movie Theater Butter Popcorn
- 1/2 stick of butter (or 1/4 cup)
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 5 cups of mini marshmallows
- 3/4 cups of Halloween color chocolate candies (think brown and orange M&Ms)
- 3/4 cups of candy corn
What to do:
In a large saucepan, melt your butter over a medium heat. Once the butter is melted, add in the vanilla and mini marshmallows. Stir until the marshmallows have melted and become creamy, incorporating the butter and vanilla into the melted marshmallow.
Pour the melted marshmallow over your Smartfood popcorn until it is fully coated. Allow the popcorn and marshmallow to cool off for about five minutes.
The next step is adding in 1/2 cup each of your candy corn and chocolate candies. Section the popcorn mix into 10 parts. Shape the popcorn mix into 10 balls and then add the remainder of the candy corn and chocolate candies to the outside of the popcorn balls.
The final step might just be the hardest as you will need to let the popcorn balls cool completely for another hour. This is basically the resting stage of the process and the one we have the hardest time with because we want to dig right in.
