While Target hasn’t been open on Thanksgiving for the past couple of years, but according to The Associated Press, the store will no longer be open on Thanksgiving from now on. This makes Target one of the only stores that have made a permanent shift to not being open on Turkey Day.
Plenty of stores were closed last year because of the pandemic and the need to limit crowds, but Target seems to have looked at the numbers and decided it was worth it to them to stay closed during the holiday for the future.
According to the National Retail Federation, sales actually rose 8.2% during 2020. So despite stores being closed, people were spending more money than ever.
And if you were one of those shoppers who went out on Thanksgiving to get the deals at Target, all is not lost. Just because the stores are closed doesn’t mean you can’t shop to your heart’s content. That’s what online shopping is for, right? Whether you need a break from your family (no judgment here!) or you want to get in on the deals before everyone else, Target’s website is always open.
Target will no longer be open on Thanksgiving Day
Although, if you really want to get in early on the deals, Target is running deals the whole week of Black Friday so you don’t have to wait until Thursday or Friday.
I can speak from experience that it’s just as easy to spend an hour on Target’s website as it is to spend it in the actual store. And you can still spend just as much money!
This news is also great for Target employees. Most of them will likely be able to be with their family and friends on Thanksgiving instead of at work. Before the pandemic, stores were competing for who could open earlier for Black Friday deals.
That meant workers had to come in earlier and earlier to meet the demands of shoppers and cut into the time they spent with those they love. That’s no longer the case.
