The holiday season is upon us and Planters is bringing the NUTstalgia this holiday season and they are doing it with the help of Reginald VelJohnson. Whether you grew up with VelJohnson thanks to Family Matters or you recently discovered him with the help of the Disney Plus series, Turner & Hooch, this collaboration with Planters is definitely one for the books.

With this partnership, we get a throwback to days gone by, while also making it easier than ever to add some nuts to our holidays. And why wouldn’t you want some Planters at your holiday gatherings?

In a press email we received from Planters, we learned that for the 2021 holiday season it is all about the NUTstalgia. What does that mean? It means an entire celebration revolving around nuts. On top of an epic music video for the holidays, they are also doing a giveaway from now until December 31.

"Ffans can enter to win a PLANTERS® brand nutstalgia gift box on NUTstalgia.com. These limited-edition holiday boxes include retro PLANTERS brand swag, classic board games, a Bluetooth cassette boombox and a classic movie on DVD. No DVD player? No problem. Fans will also receive a code so they can download the movie electronically."

Obviously, it was not just about a music video or a giveaway, it is also about the ultimate 1980s inspired partnership. If you are anything like me and you grew up in the late 80s, early 90s, then VelJohnson has definitely been a part of your life. He was the ultimate TV dad thanks to his time on Family Matters. And we got the opportunity to ask him a few questions!

From this partnership with Planters to his time on Family Matters, this is what we learned from Reginal VelJohnson as we head into the holidays (and yes, we virtually fangirled!).

Guilty Eats: What inspired this partnership with Planters and which nuts are your favorite, especially at the holidays?

Reginald VelJohnson: “I’ve always been a fan of Planters and when they approached me about being a part of their retro music video for the holidays, I couldn’t help but say yes! It’s been a while since I’ve had to sing and I always work hard at a song whenever I have to perform it, but the one I sang in “A Nutty Holiday” was so fun and upbeat that it came naturally and was really enjoyable to record. I had a great time making the music video with Planters and hope that it will help bring families together and get them in the holiday spirit this year.”

GE: Are there any snacks or treats with nuts that you enjoy the most?

RVJ: “I love Planters peanuts, I really do. I especially like the cashew nuts. They’re always a reliably crunchy and a satisfying snack. I also like to heat them up in the microwave so they are nice and toasty when I enjoy them.”

GE: Do you have a favorite snack that helps you get through a long day on set?

RVJ: “The most satisfying snack during the day is a fist full of cashews. The salty kind is what I really enjoy.”

GE: I grew up watching Family Matters and whenever there are reruns I always have to sit down and watch, how do you feel about being such a big part of so many people’s childhoods and the father they look up to?

RVJ: “I think it’s very sweet and nice that people see me as the father type, although I never thought of myself in that role. I appreciate their thoughts of me in that respect.”

GE: What is your favorite holiday movie and what are you snacking on while you watch?

RVJ: “My favorite holiday movie would be Die Hard since everyone claims it’s a Christmas movie. Aside from Die Hard, I really enjoy tuning into Its a Wonderful Life. Even if I’m in a turkey-induced food coma, I’ll have a bowl of mixed nuts nearby to munch on.”

GE: Do you have any holiday traditions that mean the holidays have arrived for you and your family?

RVJ: “Getting a Christmas tree and decorating it with my family was always my favorite Christmas tradition. It was always the most special time ever since I was little and one of my favorite memories.”

GE: What are your favorite holiday treats and snacks?

RVJ: “At my holiday celebrations every year, I always serve Planters nuts to snack on while preparing a deep-fried turkey. My favorite nuts to serve are their limited-edition holiday mixes like the Holiday Nut Crunch. The mix of sweet and savory is spot on for this time of year.”
