When the news broke late Sunday that actor and comedian Bob Saget had died unexpectedly in his hotel room in Florida while on tour, it felt almost unreal. First we lose Betty White and now Saget, perhaps best known as Amercia’s Dad Danny Tanner on Full House? Are you freakin’ kidding me?

Tributes and remembrances quickly started flooding social media and haven’t let up yet. It seems that everyone who ever met Saget had something good to say and everyone agreed that he was one of the nicest, kindest people anyone could ever know.

If you were a Bob Saget fan, which I am, then you know there was more to the actor then the family-friendly patriarch of Full House, which he starred in for eight successful season. He was also one of the raunchiest stand up comics you would ever see, with a quick wit and filthy sense of humor that earned him a famously loyal following.

And as it turns out, Saget was also a bit of a foodie. The native Philadelphian was a noted lover of good food and appeared on a handful of food-related TV series over the years.

Bob Saget tried to Beat Bobby Flay and ate hot wings on Hot Ones.

In 2017 Saget appeared on the YouTube series Hot Ones with host Sean Evans. The idea is for a celebrity to answer questions while eating wings that get progressively hotter and hotter. Saget was on the series to promote his hew concert film and did himself proud, making it all the way to the Last Dab and adding more hot sauce to his wing then he needed to.

Saget also appeared on Rachel Ray’s daytime talk show and talked food while cracking one-liners that had the audience roaring. But best of all, in 2020 he showed up on Beat Bobby Flay with Anne Burrell to try and take the one and only Bobby Flay down.

In keeping with his Philly roots, which Saget was very proud of, he brought Philadelphia chef Aliza Green to do battle with Flay. Unfortunately she lost to Chef Sam Diminich in Round 1, but Burrell and Saget did go on to beat Flay in a battle of Lobster Risotto, giving him one of his few losses on the show.

If you only know Bob Saget from Full House or America’s Funniest Home Videos, I implore you to seek out one of his stand-up concert films and watch a master at work. It’s not for those who may be easily offended, but if you can handle it, you won’t be disappointed.

Rest in peace Bob Saget. We sure are going to miss you around here.
