Marvel’s Black Panther cookbook coming in April 2022
While Black Panther 2 isn’t supposed to come out until November 2022, you don’t have to wait that long for some new Black Panther content. But it won’t be a new movie or a new TV show. It’s going to be a cookbook! But what will the recipes be? Let’s find out!
Marvel’s Black Panther: The Official Wakanda Cookbook is set to be released on April 5, 2022 and was written by Nyanyika Banda. There will be 70 recipes inspired by Wakanda and African cuisine. Some of the recipes include Roasted Chambo, Braised Oxtail and Dumplings, and Glazed Road Runner Wings.
But to come up with recipes based on a fictional place, the author had to do more than just collect African recipes. Banda not only had to come up with recipes that made sense for the location of Wakanda and the comics, but she also had to explain how certain recipes or ingredients made it to Wakanda when it wasn’t colonized the way many other African countries were.
Official Black Panther Cookbook coming April 5, 2022
It’s so isolated from the other countries that there needs to be a reason for some foods to be included in these recipes. Clearly, this is not just your average cookbook!
One thing that played in Banda’s favor was that Wakanda began to open itself up to other countries at the end of the first movie. After opening up Wakanda, it would make sense that some recipes and ingredients would make their way in from other countries.
Banda’s background also made her the perfect author for this cookbook. She may have grown up in New England but her dad would make meals from his native Malawi.
Banda is also known for her catering service, Martha’s Daughter (named after her now-closed restaurant). Additionally, she’s not only worked at her own restaurant but at other chef’s restaurants as well. The recipes are definitely going to be amazing!
While this Official Wakanda Cookbook doesn’t come out until April 2022, it is available to preorder on Amazon. It’s currently $29.99 for the hardcover cookbook.
