The Whopper, the signature sandwich of Burger King, has become a fast food icon for a reason. It’s about as perfect as a burger you get through a drive-thru can get. It’s flame grilled, you can have it literally any way you want and it tastes really good.
However, there is always room for improvement. Well, improvement may be the wrong word. It’s kind of hard to improve the Whopper. However, you can take the winning Whopper formula and give it a new twist and a different look.
It’s something Burger King has done many times before. Some would even argue that the Ch’King, their new hit chicken sandwich, owes more of its DNA to the Whopper then the King Sandwich it takes the name from.
Now it is being reported by the Whopper-lovers at Chewboom that Burger King is once again taking the Whopper and giving it a new look. But this time, the changes run a bit deeper than a new topping or adding another burger to the mix.
The Burger King Whopper Melt Sandwich will only be available for a limited time.
They are calling it the Whopper Melt Sandwich and it takes its inspiration from the diner classic, the Patty Melt. Think a Whopper but instead of a bun it comes with toast.
There are three different Whopper Melt Sandwiches currently being test marketed in the Toledo, Ohio area but the basics of each are the same. It includes two flame-grilled Whopper Jr. patties, American Cheese and caramelized onions all between two slices of toast.
The Whopper Melt adds Stacker Sauce to the burger to give it some extra tang. The Spicy Whopper Melt adds a creamy spicy sauce to the mix while the Bacon Whopper Melt includes everyone’s favorite meat candy, bacon.
As was mentioned earlier, if you want to try one and you don’t live in Ohio, you’re going to have to take a road trip. But hopefully Burger King will realize what a winner this idea is and give it a nationwide release at some point.
