The Great Chocolate Showdown was back on The CW for its second episode on Saturday, Feb 5, 2022, and it was so much more fun than the first episode. This week, the contestants had to use everyday objects to make unique chocolate creations and had to mix fruit into their chocolate desserts.

The show started off with pastry chef Anna Olson showing the contestants how to use everyday objects like balloons, leaves, and bubble wrap to make chocolate bowls and uniquely patterned chocolate. The contestants then had to make a chocolate dessert using what they learned.

Some contestants used leaves, cupcake liners, balloons, and even drawer liners. But not everyone was judged this round. The judges picked five of the best-looking desserts and chose those to taste. Of the five, three contestants were given immunity from elimination.

Next was the elimination challenge where the rest of the contestants had to make a dessert combining chocolate and fruit. They each were randomly assigned a fruit and then had to make something delicious and beautiful.

T, Casey, and Fadi were the top desserts after the final round and T ended up having the best dessert. Blueberry cheesecake and white chocolate macrons can never be a bad idea and T proved he is a macron master!

Katie was unfortunately eliminated this week because she used a concentrated version of strawberry and it overpowered the chocolate in her cake.

As for how entertaining this episode was, the contestants were just as fun as they were last week. They supported one another, made some amazing sweet treats, and were simply so much fun to watch.

The judges were so much more at ease and seemed to genuinely support the bakers way more than they did last week. They were friendly and that’s what was missing in the first episode. Hopefully, they keep this up!

Next week, the bakers will learn about panning and have to make a chocolate dessert that includes spices. There are definitely a few bakers who will excel at this (definitely Fadi) and some who may struggle (I just can’t imagine Andrew knowing how to spice up a chocolate dish). I can’t wait to see what they make!
