Cereal-Flavored Popcorn Pops Up at Walmart!
By Nancy West
Cereal is having a star moment. What used to be exclusively a breakfast food is now showing up in the spotlight all day long. From classic Rice Krispy treats to blending it into ice cream for an over-the-top mega milkshake, cereal is everywhere! The next level has been reached in 2022 because cereal-flavored popcorn has arrived on the scene.
General Mills has combined two of its sweet cereals with popcorn to create the ultimate snack combo. The two cereal-flavored popcorn varieties are Cinnamon Toast Crunch with Cinnadust Glaze and Cocoa Puffs popcorn with cocoa glaze. Both varieties can be found at Walmart. However, they may possibly be available at other retailers later this year.
Who doesn’t love a crunchy, sweet glaze (especially on popcorn)?!
I took a trip to my local Walmart to see if I could find either of these flavors, but I was sadly not successful. Checking the Walmart website shows Cocoa Puffs popcorn is currently sold out. It looks like I will not be, “going cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs” popcorn anytime soon. However, the Cinnamon Toast Crunch popcorn is available for purchase online. Seven ounce bags are being sold for $3.28 on the Walmart website.
Not being able to try this snack myself, I went to the Walmart customer reviews to see what others have to say about these snacks. There is currently only one review of the Cocoa Puffs popcorn and it’s a 5 star rating with no comments. The Cinnamon Toast Crunch flavor has five reviews with an average 3.4 rating. Reviewer Jessi commented, “Was very good not over powered with sugar and cinnamon!” Reviewer Dan noted, “Basic, bland popcorn with a little cinnamon dust. Not worth your money.” However, there are an army of YouTubers that have a lot more to say in their recent reviews. My take? If you enjoy sweet popcorn, this will determine if you will like these new flavors.
Guilty Eaters, we want to know, will you be trying any of these sweet treats from General Mills? Which flavor are you the most excited to try? What cereal flavor do you want to see show up in the chip aisle next? We want to know.
