Geoffrey Zakarian is making a Big Restaurant Bet
By D. Goodman
Chef and restauranteur Geoffrey Zakarian has been known as a lot of things during his time on Food Network. One of the most popular judges on Chopped, Iron Chef and part of the foodie panel on The Kitchen are just a few of the most noteworthy.
What most people forget is that before Zakarian was ever on television he was a noted chef and headed up a series of popular Michelin stared restaurants. Long before he was chopping chefs on TV he was working in some of the best kitchens on the East Coast.
It is that wealth of experience and knowledge that Zakarian is brining to his new Food Network series Big Restaurant Bet. Similar in theme to Guy Fieri’s recent Guy’s Chance of a Lifetime, the Iron Chef will be helping one deserving chef to live out their dream of opening their very first restaurant.
However, for Big Restaurant Bet Zakarian is putting his money where his mouth is. The winner will not only receive his mentorship and advice, but his cash as well. Because the victor will be receiving $250,000 of Zakarian’s own resources to help their dream come true.
Big Restaurant Bet with Geoffrey Zakarian will be streaming on Discovery Plus.
The series, which will be available on Food Network as well as streaming on Discovery Plus, will see eight aspiring chefs compete to see who is ready to open their own restaurant. Zakarian will make the final decision who is prepared and has the skill and knowledge to begin their culinary journey.
When talking to The Hollywood Reporter, Zakarian made it clear this is more than just a reality television show. This is a chance to change someone’s life forever.
"“Opening a restaurant takes unwavering determination, razor sharp skill and unique culinary talent In Big Restaurant Bet, viewers will follow the journey and dreams of eight talented chefs that are passionate about launching their own restaurant. It’s not just a once in a lifetime competition – it’s real life. In the end, I’m going to select one chef to get behind and help bring their concept to fruition. The stakes are high, and my own reputation is on the line as we find America’s next great restaurateur.”"
The six-episode series will air on Food Network and be available to stream weekly on Discovery Plus beginning Tuesday, April 5 at 10 PM.
