Pure Leaf is celebrating Women’s History Month by teaming up with Allyson Felix, the most decorated American Track and Field athlete, to start a grant program that will allow women to say no at work without the negative outcomes that sometimes come with it.

As part of this new initiative, Pure Leaf commissioned a nationwide survey to “determine the qualitative and quantitative ‘Cost of No.'”

Their survey found that nearly 3 in 4 women think they experience negative outcomes when they say no at work and 2 in 3 actually do experience negative outcomes when they say no in the workplace.

Additionally, if a woman says no in the workplace, she risks losing up to $1,406 in future earning potential. With all the women working today, that adds up to $55.3 billion in future earning potential. That’s a lot of money to lose for such a simple two-letter word

To help fix this issue, the tea company is launching its “No” Grants program. It is set to help give women the ability and power to say no at work without being hit with the financial consequences that can come with it. But they are not doing this alone.

They are teaming up with The SeekHer Foundation, a women’s mental health non-profit, and the one and only Allyson Felix to give these grants to women in need.

But it goes beyond just the grants. Pure Leaf is also committing $1 million over the next three years to fund partnerships and initiatives that help support women who want to say no at work.

If women can say no to things like extra hours, overscheduling, or working on their day off, they can say yes to things like family, friends, social and cultural activities, personal things.

Saying no as a woman in any part of our lives is difficult. There are moments when it’s uncomfortable, there are moments where it can cost us our jobs, and there are moments when it’s actually dangerous. This definitely sounds like a step in the right direction.
