It’s safe to say that the majority of foodie nation thought that Season 11 of MasterChef was a disappointment. From contestants who clearly didn’t deserve to be there to a frustrating finale to questions about just what the producers consider a “home cook”, last season left a lot to be desired and a bad taste in many a fan’s mouth.
However, that didn’t stop the ratings from pouring in. MasterChef Legends was a solid hit with viewers when it arrived in 2012 and all but guaranteed a Season 12 was on the way.
And it’s being reported by Deadline that Fox has indeed announced that Season 12 is officially on the summer schedule. It is set to arrive in late May with Gordon Ramsay, Aarón Sánchez and Joe Bastianich all returning as judges.
But this won’t be an ordinary season of MasterChef. Instead of welcoming an all new group of home cooks (however they’re defining that term currently) this year the series will see the return of some of the most memorable contestants from previous years.
MasterChef: Back to Win arrives on Fox on May 25.
MasterChef: Back to Win will see 20 former contestants return for a second chance at winning it all. It will include 18 from previous seasons of MasterChef as well as two who appeared on MasterChef Junior and will now be competing as adults.
Hopefully with the cast made up of returning chefs viewers won’t be subjected to three hours of tedium and monotony as the judges pick who gets a white apron.
At this point exactly who is coming back remains a mystery but fans are sure to hit up social media with their thoughts as to who deserves a second shot at winning the title. We have our own opinions and we’ll just say that if Autumn Moretti from last season doesn’t get another chance there’s no justice in the world.
MasterChef: Back to Win arrives on Wednesday, May 25 at 8 PM on Fox.
