Thirsty Thursday: Tequila Cocktails for World Cocktail Day
By Nancy West
Cinco de Mayo may be over but tequila can be enjoyed any day of the year! In honor of tomorrow’s World Cocktail Day we are “traveling” to Mexico to celebrate the distilled spirit.
The town of Tequila is located in the state of Jalisco, Mexico. This is where the iconic liquor is made from the blue agave plants. Here are three cocktail recipes from three different tequila brands:
818 Tequila
818 Tequila is Kendall Jenner’s tequila brand, named after her 818 area code. Reposado means restful in Spanish and the 818 Reposado is aged in oak barrels for at least two months. According to the brand’s website, this spirit has tastes of “ripe, roasted agave flavor with notes of caramel and vanilla.” Try the 818 Coconut Refresher for a light and bubbly cocktail, filled with hydrating electrolytes.
818 Coconut Refresher
Ingredients:
2 oz. 818 reposado
4-6 oz. coconut water
0.75 oz. lime juice
Sparkling water
Directions:
1. In a highball glass filled with ice, add the tequila and desired amount of coconut water.
2. Add lime juice to taste, and top with sparkling water.

Milagro Tequila
Milagro Silver is a 100% blue agave tequila made by Milagro Tequila. It comes in a bright, colorful blue bottle. A press email describes the flavor as “tastes of bright fresh agave, citrus and pear”. Online reviews note that this is smooth and good for both drinking straight or using as a mixer. I recommend using it in this fruity, perfect-for-summer margarita!
Watermelon Margarita
Created by East Coast Ambassador, Manny Pena
Ingredients:
2 parts Milagro Silver
2 parts Watermelon juice
1 part Lime
½ part agave nectar
Method:
Shake and strain over fresh ice into glass with salted rim
Add lime wheel, lime wedge, or watermelon triangle to garnish
YaVe Tequila
YaVe Tequila founder Joe Cruz Jr. launched his company in 2018. The YaVe Tequila Reposado is aged in oak barrels for eight months. According to the company website, the Reposado has tastes of an “impeccable balance of sweet and spice, with a long smooth finish.” YaVe Tequila shared this recipe for a YaVe Pink Mimosa. With only three ingredients, this is an easy-to-put-together, smooth and citrusy cocktail.
YaVe Pink Mimosa
1 oz YaVe Tequila Reposado
2 oz grapefruit juice
3 oz Prosecco or Champagne
How to:
Add all ingredients to a champagne glass and stir. Garnish with a fresh grapefruit slice and edible flowers!
