We are down to the top 5 on MasterChef Junior and that means that things are getting even more serious in the kitchen. And as we get down to the final episodes of Season 8, it makes sense that we would also get a bit of a lookback to the past.

As Gordon Ramsay says to the current batch of MasterChef Junior contestants, this is seven seasons in the making. That’s because Season 1 winner Alexander Weiss is back. And we were lucky enough to get a sneak peak of episode 12 and Alexander’s iconic return.

In the one minute clip, we get to see the top 5 cheftestants standing before their judges waiting to learn what is the giant box behind them (the judges that is). And thanks to Ramsay’s teasing, we know exactly what to expect.

MasterChef Junior brings back their Season 1 winner to show the Season 8 top 5 how to filet a salmon

While the junior chefs throw out their guesses of what is in the box (a lion was the most prevalent guess), the judges get out of the way to reveal none other than Alexander Weiss with a whole salmon in his arms. And yes, that is a sign of things to come, as this week the MasterChef Junior chefs will have to not only filet a salmon of their own in order to win immunity, but the remaining chefs will then have to take those filets and create amazing dishes to keep them in the competition.

It’s definitely exciting to see Alexander Weiss back on our screens and showing the young chefs where he once stood how to filet a salmon for themselves. As the press email we received explains, Weiss “is a 2020 graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, from their Hyde Park location.” He is currently working as a private chef in California, which just goes to show us all that it’s not just the adult chefs over on MasterChef that are doing big things in the culinary world after their time on the series.
