Great American Baking Show announces new hosts

We’ve all fallen in love with the Great British Baking Show and while America has had its own version for a few years, it has been on for a while. Well, that’s about to change. The Great American Baking Show will be coming to The Roku Channel and like its predecessor, will feature a group of bakers competing against each other to win the top spot.

But, while Prue Leith will be joining Paul Hollywood as the judges in this new American version, Noel Fielding and Matt Lucas will not be making the trip across the pond. That means there will be two brand new hosts and it was just announced that they will be actors Ellie Kemper and Zach Cherry.

You probably remember Ellie Kemper from both Bridemaids and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Zach Cherry has starred in Severance, Succession, and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

Neither of these two has hosted a show like this before so it will be interesting to see how they do.

The Great American Baking Show is making a comeback with new hosts and a new judge too

You may remember a show with this same name on CBS and ABC with Mary Berry and then Paul Hollywood as judges and while this is considered a continuation of that, it will feature brand new hosts and Prue Leith will be involved this time.

Considering the show hasn’t been on in 3-4 years, this does feel like a bit of a reboot. So it will be interesting to see how it compares to the British version we all know and love.

American reality cooking/baking shows are well-known for taking themselves too seriously and being wildly competitive. “I’m not here to make friends” has been said on many a cooking competition show.

Hopefully, the creators remember that part of the reason the original show is so popular is because it smashes all those old tropes with a rolling pin. It’s a comfort show.

While it can be stressful due to the time constraints and the multiple challenges, the stress never comes because the bakers are at each other’s throats.

Let’s keep our fingers crossed this new Roku version continues with that tradition.

The show is scheduled to hit The Roku Channel sometime in 2023.
