Halloween Baking Championship was back on Food Network for episode 3 of season 8 and this week, it was all about haunted hedge mazes. Instead of the usual two challenges, the bakers had to complete one big challenge. But with a big challenge comes a big elimination and that meant two people had to go home.

But before we get ahead of ourselves, let’s start at the beginning. The bakers were paired off into teams of two and were tasked with making a hedge maze made out of cake. Each baker also had to make an individual dessert that went with the maze. The two bakers that did the worst (either on the same team or separate teams) were sent home.

The teams consisted of Jill and Kristi, Justin and Marisca, Zac and Blayre, Alexey and Lola, and Lauren and Margarita.

These mazes were absolutely extraordinary. While some were more detailed than others, they all looked great. None of them were tilting, crumbling, or an absolute mess. They were creepy and fun and pretty realistic. The individual desserts didn’t look too bad either.

Halloween Baking Championship was all about mazes this week

But someone had to come out on top. In this episode, it was Jill and Kristi! Their desserts (a flourless chocolate cake and a cookie box filled with candy brittle nails) went really well with their spooky maze.

And, unfortunately, two bakers had to go home. The bottom three included Alexey, Margarita, and Justin, and unfortunately, Margarita and Justin went home. Their individual desserts just didn’t meet the judges’ expectations.

Next week, the remaining bakers have to create smashable desserts (delightful!) with a surprise inside and they have to make a dessert that looks moldy and includes a fermented ingredient.
