On September 29, news broke that rapper Coolio had unexpectedly passed away at the age of 59. And as we say goodbye to the musician and entrepreneur, we look to honor his legacy by also looking to some of his other unique endeavors.

For example, did you know that Coolio was not only a rapper, but he also had his own cookbook? Originally released in 2009, Cookin’ with Coolio was all about thinking about meals in a different way. In fact, the premise of his cookbook was all about taking 5 star meals and making them at a 1 star price.

In November 2021, Guilty Eats had the opportunity to talk to Coolio about another foodie adventure he was taking part in with Hormel. He was part of their innovative “Wrapping with Bacon” campaign that offered fans of Hormel Bacon a chance to win a special holiday wrapping kit that smelled like Black Label Bacon.

At the time of the interview, we spoke about his cookbook and plans he had for another one in the future. He even mentioned that he had already been working on the next cookbook.

Sadly, with the loss of Coolio it looks like we will not be getting that follow up cookbook or anymore foodie adventures.

According to TMZ, which first reported the news,

"Coolio died Wednesday in Los Angeles … TMZ has learned. The rapper who achieved enormous success in the 90s was visiting a friend late Wednesday afternoon when he passed away.Coolio’s longtime manager, Jarez, says Coolio went to the bathroom at his friend’s house, but when he didn’t come out after a while … the friend kept calling for him, and eventually went in and found Coolio laying on the floor."

We are saddened by this news and we send our condolences to his family at this time. And in honor of his passing, we are pulling out Cookin’ with Coolio, whipping up one of his recipes and maybe putting on some “Gangsta’s Paradise” or “Fantastic Voyage” to celebrate his life and career.
