The Great British Baking Show was back for episode 8 of season 13 and it seemed like no one was performing at their best for Pastry Week. No matter what the challenge was, most of the bakers did not do great.

Let’s start with the Signature Challenge! This week, the bakers had to make twelve sweet vol-au-vants. The results were pretty underwhelming based on the judge’s comments. The puff pastry did not get enough rise, things were a bit of a mess, and some of the flavors were off. It looked like Syabira was the only one who did outstanding.

On to the Technical Challenge. Once again, the bakers didn’t really do any actual baking for this challenge. They had to make spring rolls. While most of these tasted pretty good, the outsides were very bubbly. It was clear that most, if not all, the bakers had never made spring rolls before. That being said, Sandro came out on top!

Finally, the Showstopper Challenge. For this challenge, the bakers had to create a 3D scene made out of pies and it had to be inspired by their favorite nursery rhyme or childhood story. Needless to say, this was not an easy task. The stories they were inspired by included everything from Treasure Island to Jack and the Beanstalk to Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.

It was all about pastry on this week’s Great British Baking Show

Again, the bakers really struggled here. Some of the bakes were dry, rough-looking, or tough, and some had some cracking. A few were even raw!

But who got Star Baker and who went home? Syabira, once again, received Star Baker. She is just knocking it out of the park week after week. And unfortunately (and wrongly in my opinion), Maxy was sent home. There were other bakers who have repeatedly not done well in the past few weeks that could have gone home before her.

Next week, it’s Patisserie Week and with only four bakers left, you know the judges will be looking even more critically at their bakes.
