Matt Lucas has been a host on the Great British Baking Show for the past three seasons, but his hosting gig is coming to an end. He announced on Tuesday, Dec 6, 2022 that he is leaving the show.
Whether you loved him or hated him (people had LOTS of opinions about his jokes), him not being on the show anymore will definitely be a change. At the very least, he had good chemistry with fellow host Noel Fielding and we can’t guarantee that will be the case with whoever takes his place.
The announcement came via Matt Lucas’s Twitter and on the Great British Baking Show‘s Instagram. And based on what he said, it looks like he is leaving due to scheduling conflicts with Fantasy Football League and some of the other projects he has in the works.
His announcement read:
"Farewell Bake Off! It’s been a delicious experience and I can’t imagine a more fun way of spending my summers, but it’s become clear to me that I can’t present both ‘Fantasy Football League’ and ‘Bake Off’ alongside all my other projects. Som after three series and 51 episodes, I am cheerfully passing the baguette to someone else. I would give my warmest thanks and gratitude to everyone at Love Productions and Channel 4 and to Noelipops, Paul, Dame Prue, and the crew, and of course, the wonderful bakers for welcoming me into the tent. I wish whoever takes over all the very best and I can’t wait to tune into the next series without already knowing who won!"
Matt Lucas is leaving the Great British Baking Show
Now the guessing game begins on who will be the next person to host the Great British Baking Show alongside Noel. Will it be someone well-known or someone brand new? As the last season just ended, the news will likely not be announced anytime soon, but here’s hoping it’s someone fun, supportive, and hilarious.
