For as long as anyone can remember, the grilled cheese sandwich has been a childhood favorite. No one can resist the simple joy and biting into one of the iconic sandwiches, whether with a bowl of tomato soup or a bag of chips. Which is exactly what Sonic is counting on.

Because while Sonic does burgers and does them well, they can’t compete with the giants that are McDonald’s and Burger King. Which is why Sonic has always been willing to think outside the box when it comes to new menu items.

And one of those new menu items looks to be a new take on the classic grilled cheese sandwich we all know and love. The cheeseheads at Chewboom are reporting the new sandwich will arrive shortly after Christmas with a preview for those who use the Sonic App.

The Sonic Steak and Bacon Grilled Cheese Sandwich will be available thru February.

Sonic is calling the new item the Steak and Bacon Grilled Cheese Sandwich and honestly, they could have stopped at bacon and we would have been sold. However, it also apparently has steak and comes in two different varieties.

The Steak and Bacon Grilled Cheese Sandwich includes grilled steak mixed with green onions that has been topped with bacon, BBQ sauce and mayo and placed between two slices of Texas toast layered with melted American cheese.

The sandwich also comes in a spicy version that swaps out the BBQ sauce for a zesty cheese sauce and jalapenos.

The new Steak and Bacon Grilled Cheese Sandwich launches officially on December 26, but if you use the Sonic app you can exclusively get one a bit early beginning December 19. It will be available nationwide until February 26 or while supplies last.
