Is Costco open on New Year’s Day 2023?

Entering a new year is not only a celebration for many, but it is also a fresh start. And does that fresh start include a grocery trip to Costco?

Honestly, grocery shopping might not seem like a fresh start type of experience, but if you are anything like us then there may be some resolutions in the work. After a holiday season filled with goodies from cakes and cookies to decadent dinners, many of us are thinking about New Year’s Resolutions.

And with healthy eating on the horizon for at least the first month of the new year (we have no delusions about ourselves and our guilty eating habits), stocking up on groceries is important. With Costco, we can absolutely stock up and save on what we need.

But will Costco actually be open on New Year’s Day?

Is Costco closed on New Year’s Day 2023?

Unfortunately for anyone looking to do some bulk shopping to kick off 2023, Costco will not be open on New Year’s Day. According to Costco’s customer service page, New Year’s Day is one of seven days out of the year that the warehouse store is closed to shoppers.

While this may mean having to wait to stock up on a new year of groceries until January 2, for us this really means maybe one more day of being bad and enjoying some of the sweet treats of the holidays. Of course, if you don’t need a ton of groceries and supplies to kick off 2023 with, you can always check out the other stores that are open on January 1 as most will be operating under their normal business hours.

So whether you wait for January 2 to do your shopping bulk at Costco or you hit up another grocery store in your area, there are options for getting those necessities home as we start the new year.
