Spring Baking Championship season 9 finished up this week and it was a drama-filled episode. It started with the bake-off between Molly and Luke. They had to bake to see who was going to be in the final three.

The bake-off had the two making wedding shower donuts. This episode was all about weddings so every dessert was inspired by that theme. Molly got the bride donuts and made an almond raspberry baked donut with lacy icing. Luke got the groom donuts and made a blueberry baked donut and decorated them to look like blue ruffled tuxedos.

The judges were not holding any punches. One of the biggest critiques was that the donuts were too cake-like which…doesn’t make sense since they were cake donuts, but whatever.

But who made it to the final three? It was Luke! Unfortunately, Molly did not meet the judges’ expectations.

Spring Baking Championship season 9 announced a winner

On to the Pre-Heat! Christian, Clement, and Luke had to make a surprise proposal dessert that would hide a ring inside.

Clement made a raspberry tart with vanilla mascarpone cream and a ring box made out of chocolate. Christian made an almond orange cake with orange chantilly and mascarpone cream and an isomalt sphere hiding the ring inside. Luke made a coconut cake with mango basil jam and white chocolate passionfruit mousse. He hid the engagement ring in a modeling chocolate box.

The bakers did not hold back for this final Pre-Heat. All of their desserts looked absolutely delicious. But who won? Clement! He’s been doing amazing!

But what about the final Main Heat?! For the first time, the bakers had to meet with one couple each and make the wedding cake of their dreams.

Luke made an olive oil cake with whipped ricotta filling and orange marmalade. His decor was white and yellow flowers, candied orange slices, and an Eiffel Tower on the front.

Christian made a vanilla cake with chocolate buttercream, raspberry jam, and cream cheese filling. It was covered in Swiss buttercream with light brown and ivory decorations to give the cake a boho vibe. The cake also had macrame, flowers, and golden ring decorations.

Clement made a vanilla cake that was soaked in rum with white chocolate ganache and chocolate chips. The cake was covered in Swiss buttercream and the decorations include pink antique lace and a cherry blossom tree made out of modeling chocolate.

This was not an easy challenge. Christian had to remake his cake and that unfortunately didn’t turn out great with the judges. But his decorations were absolutely beautiful.

Clement did an amazing job as usual but the judges weren’t exactly happy with the branch on his cherry blossom tree.

Luke’s was equally as beautiful, but they weren’t sure about the piping of his Eiffel Tower on the cake.

But who won the whole show? It was Luke! I know I wasn’t the only one who was shocked by this. Christian and Clement were on the top for most of the series. It would have made sense if one of them had won.

The next Food Network baking show is the Summer Baking Championship. It hits the channel on Monday, May 15, 2023. Make sure to check it out!
