While fried foods and desserts are staples of the Massachusetts food scene, health is also a top priority for many Bay State residents. It turns out Massachusetts and superfoods go together, with the state ranking seventh in new research on states who value vitamins and superfoods the most.

Top 10 States Searching for Vitamins and Superfoods

Great Green Wall Health recently analyzed data from Google searches to determine the top states interested in superfoods and vitamins. Analysts looked at who was searching for these keywords and where they resided. Here are the top ten states researching superfood and vitamin topics.

10. Illinois

The Prairie State ranked tenth in their searches for superfoods and vitamins with an average of 1,051 monthly searches among 100,000 residents. Overall, the state searched for them more than 132,298 times each month.

9. New Jersey

Ninth in vitamin and superfood searches with 1,053 monthly searches by 100,000. for its interest in vitamins and superfoods. Overall, the state had 97,542 searches per month.

8. Arizona

The Grand Canyon State comes next with 1,056 searches per 100,000 people. Arizonans researched superfoods and vitamins 77,731 times over a month, giving it the eighth spot on the list.

7. Massachusetts

Massachusetts earned the seventh spot in the rankings with an average of 1,068 monthly searches for vitamins and superfoods. During a month 74,577 residents searched for their new favorite foods.

6. Maryland

More than 65,000 people in Maryland searched for vitamins and superfoods during a month, making them sixth on the list. In a group of 100,000 people in the state, there are 1,073 monthly searches.

5. Texas

The Lone Star State rests in the center of the vitamin and superfood searches. Over a month, 31,161 people searched for the items. Among 100,000 Texans, 1,102 people researched how to get extra nutrients in their diet.

4. Georgia

Next, Georgia has 123,422 monthly searches for vitamins and superfoods per month. This averages to 1,131 searches for every 100,000 residents.

3. New York

New York is searching for natural health remedies 231,645 times a month. This totals at 1,177 per 100,000 people living in the state.

2. California

California came in second place with 495,575 overall searches for superfood and vitamins as well as 1,177 searches among 100,000 people.

1. Florida

The Sunshine State is the most popular state for vitamin and superfood searches. Per 100,00 people, 1,183 people searched for those items. Overall, 263,181 people entered those search terms over the month.

The 5 Highest Ranking Superfood and Vitamins

There are many vitamins and superfoods out there but some are more popular and have better nutritional value than others.

1. Ashwagandha

The top searched superfood in the U.S. is ashwagandha, with an average of 849,344 average monthly searches. It supports brain health, improves muscle recovery and growth and increases fertility in men.

Ashwagandha is the most popular superfood searched in Florida. You can find it over-the-counter as an herbal supplement in most pharmacies.

2. Magnesium

Magnesium ranks second in superfoods and vitamins searched on Google, with an average of 394,353. It supports more than 300 enzyme systems and helps regulate blood sugar and blood pressure. It also supports muscle and nerve function and is necessary for energy production.

Foods high in magnesium include almonds, pumpkin seeds, chia seeds, peanuts, soymilk, rolled oats, spinach, whole grains like brown rice and milk.

3. Vitamin D

Known to support bone and muscle health, vitamin D is the third most popular search, getting a monthly average of 322,177. It works by helping the body absorb calcium — a necessary nutrient for keeping humans strong. Studies show vitamin D it also has immune benefits and can reduce inflammation.

Salmon, tuna, swordfish, sardines, beef liver, cod liver oil and fortified milks and juices all contain vitamin D.

4. Turmeric

Turmeric has many benefits on the respiratory system and is the fourth most popular vitamin and superfood searched for on Google. It aids in healing respiratory infections and can also aid arthritis symptoms. It’s the most searched superfood in Georgia and averages 315,419 per month in the U.S.

It’s a spice that you can find in a powder or in capsules as an herbal supplement in a pharmacy or grocery store.

5. Probiotics

These living organisms can work wonders on the gut. They are the fifth most searched for superfood or vitamin across the U.S., averaging 289,263 searches each month. Several studies show that probiotics can improve gastrointestinal illnesses, prevent urinary and vaginal infections in women and delay allergy development in children.

You can find probiotics in kefir, tempeh, sauerkraut, kimchi and yogurt. For yogurt in grocery stores, ensure the label says there are live and active cultures.
