Summer Baking Championship renewed for season 2

Summer Baking Championship just ended a few weeks ago and a winner was announced. But as it was the first season of the series, it was unclear whether we would be getting another season next year. While there are other baking championship shows that have been around for years, with this one just getting off its feet, will it be coming back?

The answer is yes! Summer Baking Championship will be back for a second season on Food Network. The production for the show will begin later this year so we won’t learn who the new bakers are and if Jesse Palmer and the judges will be back for quite some time.

But considering Jesse Palmer hosts almost all of these shows, he probably will be back. And Carla Hall, Duff Goldman, and Damaris Philips are regulars on the channel, so they are likely to be back as well. Although, I wouldn’t mind Stephanie Boswell filling in for Damaris instead. She’s brilliant as a judge on Halloween Baking Championship, so it wouldn’t be completely out of left field to see her on the summer edition.

Speaking on the renewal of the show, Betsy Ayala, the head of food content at Warner Bros. Discovery said:

"Baking championships have long been a favorite of Food Network fans who enjoy the thrill of the competition with the exquisite and visually-stunning baked creations. Summer Baking Championship was the perfect addition to the lineup, and we can’t wait to build on season one’s success with a new field of bakers and challenges next year."

Summer Baking Championship coming back for season 2

As for what I’d like to see in the new season, I’d love to see some of the more trendy challenges we saw this year. The “cartoon” cake and the Barbie challenge were really fun. While beach cakes and cakes themed on summer activities are a must, having challenges based on social media trends and the biggest movie coming out in the summer gives the show a fresh take. It also gives it a bit of an edge over the other shows that have more dedicated themes. It’s hard to beat the Halloween desserts with a beach cake. But a Barbie dessert? Now that can compete!
