In order to celebrate this milestone, we are going to talk about some of the most unique beans that are out there on the market right now coming to you from Heyday Canning Co.!

What unique flavors of beans does Heyday Canning Co. make? Let’s find out!

Here are all of the current brand new flavors that they offer:

  • Kimchi Sesame (Navy Beans)
  • Harissa Lemon (Chickpeas)
  • Apricot Glazed (Baked Beans)
  • Enchilada (Black Beans)
  • Coconut Curry (Chickpeas)
  • Tomato alla Vodka (Cannellini Beans)

Now, let’s go ahead and rank them all and go over some of the best uses and dishes for all of them! Remember, these are my personal preferences from trying them, so it’s totally possible that my least favorite will be your #1 favorite. Taste preference is very subjective and these reviews are to mainly showcase what dishes these super unique beans will go good with! Come along!

6. Coconut Curry (Chickpeas)

Personal Rating: 0.5/10

Please note that I am just not a curry loving person in general. If you love the taste of curry, then these super unique beans will be right up your alley!

On their scale, these are considered mild!

Here are three things that these go well with:

  • Jasmine Rice
  • Roasted Cauliflower
  • Flaky Flatbread

This is a great protein for those who love Malaysian or Indian food who love the flavors, but just aren’t that big of meat eaters. Give these a try if that sounds just like you or someone you know!

5. Harissa Lemon (Chickpeas)

Personal Rating: 5.7/10

Personally, this is probably one of the most unique flavors of anything that I’ve ever tried. Prior to this point, I had never tried anything harissa-flavored and I gotta say, it’s not that bad!

On their scale, these are considered medium!

Here are three things that these go well with:

  • Poached Eggs (À La Shakshuka)
  • Fried Halloumi
  • Toasted Pita Bread

If I had to describe the flavor of these, here are three words that I would use: Peppery, Lemony, Fresh. These delicious chickpeas are basically like a heavily peppered lemon pepper chicken dish!

4. Kimchi Sesame (Navy Beans)

Personal Rating: 5.8/10

I’ve only ever had something kimchi-flavored one other time in my life and I don’t really remember what it tasted like. I never eat kimchi, but eating these navy beans totally made me want to!

On their scale, these are considered medium!

Here are three things that these go well with:

  • Lettuce Cups
  • Udon Noodles
  • Steamed Rice

I imagine that out of these three things that they’d pair well with, that these particular beans would go best with the steamed rice. It’s punchy, tangy, and with the navy beans, also creamy!

3. Apricot Glazed (Baked Beans)

Personal Rating: 6.7/10

This was such an interesting take on baked beans. I love baked beans, but I’ve always had them sweetened with things like molasses and brown sugar, but never an apricot glaze! How fun!

This particular can doesn’t even have a “hotness” scale because they’re so sweet!

Here are three things that these go well with:

  • Roasted Portobellos
  • Veggie Hot Dogs
  • Coleslaw

I’d be most intrigued to try these with the roasted portobellos because I just love mushrooms! Baked beans on a veggie dog with a side of coleslaw sounds epically delicious for the Summer!

2. Tomato alla Vodka (Cannellini Beans)

Personal Rating: 6.9/10

To me, these are the most perfect “pasta beans”, if you will. To me, it already sounds like a pasta, so why not add it right on in there. It’s perfect for a sauce for all the non-meat eaters in your fam!

This particular can doesn’t even have a “hotness” scale because they’re so savory!

Here are three things that these go well with:

  • Al Dente Rigatoni
  • Olive-Oil Toasted Bread
  • Sautéed Broccolini

If you’re Italian like me, then seeing something like this might make you cringe because it’s not homemade, but trust me on this one: you definitely won’t regret buying these for a dinner party!

1. Enchilada (Black Beans)

Personal Rating: 7.1/10

The night that I made these, we made a Homemade Creamy Burrito Casserole and had these beans as a side! It had the perfect amount of spice and creaminess just by themselves!

On their scale, these are considered mild!

Here are three things that these go well with:

  • Sweet Potatoes & Cotija Cheese
  • Cilantro Lime Rice
  • Tortilla Chips & Avocado

When I made these, I just simply threw them (not literally) into a small pot and heated them up on the stove. I didn’t add anything to them and I didn’t season then myself – great just how they are!
