Great Chocolate Showdown was back this week after not being on last week and the bakers completely stepped up their game. I don’t know where these bakers have been hiding, but they blew their past performances out of the water. And they actually looked like they were having fun, which is never a bad thing.

For the first challenge, the bakers had to make a sandwich that looked like a savory deli sandwich but was actually made with sweet ingredients (including chocolate). The bakers had an absolute blast during this challenge and no one made a bad sandwich. There were shrimp po’boys, fried chicken sandwiches, burgers, bagels and lox, and breakfast sandwiches.

But with so many good creations, who came out on top? That was Tim! His burger really impressed the judges and it looked delicious!

On to the elimination challenge! This time, the bakers had to choose a film genre and then make a plated chocolate dessert that went along with that genre. Emma received Western, Tim got Sci-fi, Ashlee chose Mystery, Kristen picked Musical, and Mike got animated movies.

Great Chocolate Showdown back for season 4 episode 6

While the bakers didn’t do as well during this challenge, a few did completely shoot it out of the park. I would have had no idea what to make to go with a movie genre!

The judges definitely had two favorites and that was Tim and Ashlee. Tim made a space-ship-looking dessert with a clear sugar dome and dry ice. Ashlee fully redeemed herself and made a gorgeous entremet. She also put a chocolate dome over her dessert that the judges could crack into. It was genius!

As you might be able to guess, Ashlee was the winner this week!

Emma and Kristen were, unfortunately, in the bottom two and for two completely different reasons. Emma had next to no chocolate in her dessert while Kristen’s dessert was a little dry and wasn’t executed well. Considering this is the Great Chocolate Showdown, Emma was the one to go home.

Next week, the bakers will have to make chocolate terrariums (why does this sound so delicious?!) and will also have to create a three-tiered suspended cake. I feel like the judges must have taken this challenge from Chef Amaury Guichon’s Instagram page.
