McDonald’s has revealed that the McRib is coming back
By D. Goodman
It was this time last year that McDonald’s revealed that the McRib, one of their most popular menu items and an iconic fast food sandwich, was going to be retired. After decades of being added to and then removed from the menu, the McRib was saying goodbye.
The fact the McRib was never permanently added to the McDonald’s menu was part of the mythos of the sandwich. It would always return around Halloween every year but that didn’t stop fans from anxiously waiting for official word of the comeback.
So when the McRib was retired last year, there were a lot of mixed feelings. While some lamented the loss, other felt the time had come. The hype had begun to overshadow the sandwich itself, which can be a double edged sword.
Plus, let’s be honest. No fast food item is ever really gone. Give it enough time and almost any fast food favorite will make a return. Unless it’s the McDLT, which seems really unfair.
The McRib will return to select McDonald’s locations for a limited time.
And it would appear that is exactly what is happening. McDonald’s has confirmed to Today.com that less than a year after going on a “Farewell Tour” that the McRib is coming back. Rumors have been circulating on social media for weeks but now it has been confirmed.
The plan is to apparently bring the sandwich back beginning in November and only to offer it in select locations. What those might be and how long the McRib will be available are currently unknown.
For those that may have never had the pleasure of having a McRib, it includes a boneless pork patty that has been dipped in BBQ sauce, topped with slivered onions and dill pickles and served on a toasted homestyle bun.
Some people love the sandwich. Others hate it with all the fury they can muster. No matter how you may feel, there is no question that the McRib has become a part of fast food history and Americana on the whole. And now it’s back.
