Great British Baking Show was back for episode 7, and this week was kind of a disaster. Many of the bakes were inedible, things cracked, and quite a few items had to be remade. It was possibly one of the most stressful episodes of this show ever.

Let’s start off with the Signature Challenge! This week, the bakers had to make eight creme caramels using whatever flavors they wanted. The flavors ranged from lemongrass to fig and rosemary to strawberry and basil. Most of the bakers ended up getting their caramels out of the molds just fine, but there were a few that fell apart. The bigger issue was overbaking.

On to the Technical! When I say this episode was a disaster, it’s the Technical I’m talking about. The bakers had to make ginger-orange steamed puddings.  Tasha was the only one who made something that looked even close to what they were supposed to bake. Everyone else’s was a soupy mess. It was almost hilarious in its awfulness! Tasha won the challenge, but only by default.

Finally, there was the Showstopper. The bakers had to make a dessert and then place it inside a meringue bombe. This is not an easy task. I would bet Paul would have trouble with this one. The biggest issue was with the meringue, as you might imagine. For a few bakers, their meringue cracked as they were assembling their bombe. Tasha, Saku, and Cristy all had issues here.

It was a chaotic week on the Great British Baking Show

That said, the lack of flavor is what ultimately caused some of the bakers to receive less-than-glowing critiques.

So who got Star Baker on this chaotic episode? It was Dan. While his Technical was as bad as anyone else, his Earth-inspired Showstopper is likely what won him the title this week.

And who went home? That was, unfortunately, Saku. She just wasn’t improving as much as the judges wanted and her flavors weren’t what they were looking for. She will definitely be missed!

Next week, it’s Party Week! I don’t remember this week from any other seasons, so it will be interesting to see what the bakers will have to create.
