We’ve reported at length about the fast food items that are available in other parts of the world that aren’t available here. It’s become something of a trend and it’s one that has long been led by the folks at Burger King.

It was just a few days ago that we reported on the Roasted Garlic Whopper, a sandwich that sounds really appetizing but unfortunately for those of us in the States, it’s only on the menu in Canada. But the really bizarre sandwiches? The ones that make us shake our head? Those usually come from either Thailand or Japan.

Who can forget the Real Cheeseburger, a sandwich that includes nothing but a bun and slices upon slices of American cheese? Or how about the Whopper that included shaved ice as a topping? Yes, they really made a Whopper with frozen water as a topping.

And now Burger King Japan has taken the wraps off a whole new Whopper variation. Say hello to the new Blackout Whopper.

The Blackout Whopper will only be available at Burger King Japan for a limited time.

So what in tarnation is a Blackout Whopper? Glad you asked. The new Whopper includes a flame grilled all beef patty that has been topped with cheddar cheese, tomato, onions, and a sesame seed black mayonnaise all on a toasted black squid ink roll.

Now we’ve never had a roll that has been flavored with squid ink and we’re not really sure what exactly black mayo is, but we would definitely give this a try if we were in Japan. Because honestly, there is no way this will ever make its way to the United States.

Maybe for Halloween next year but even then, most Americans probably wouldn’t find a Whopper where the primary color is black to be that appealing. In Japan it’s likely to be a huge hit but here, not so much.

That said, if you find yourself in Japan and want to try a Blackout Whopper, don’t wait. It’s only available at Burger King locations in Japan for a very limited time.
