This week’s episode of The Big Bake: Holiday went to space with their theme. It was all about showing Santa in space with big, creative, and sweet showpieces. There were aliens, spaceships, and plenty of intergalactic fun.

The teams included Team Festive Friends, including Huascar, Liu, and Jenn, Team Freeze the Day with Nic, Karen, and Elza, and Team Never Sleigh Never, including Viktor, Christina, and Emete.

Let’s start with Festive Friends. Their cake showed aliens catching Santa using their space monster Fido. Santa was hanging upside down while two aliens watched from their bunker. How else were they supposed to get presents in space? Their cake was a chocolate almond sacher torte with chocolate mousse and apricot jam.

Team Freeze the Day had Santa going to space for a little vacay. Santa was relaxing in a hot tub space crater while three adorable fuzzy aliens took over his stash of sweets. They had a floating planet and a very real-looking part of a spaceship that was lit up. Their cake was vanilla cinnamon with a maple syrup swirl, pecan brittle crunch, and cream cheese frosting.

Finally, Team Never Sleigh Never made a cake with the Earth, the moon, and other planets to show how Santa brings everyone together. Santa was on a rocketship and there were elves and aliens altogether. And the whole cake spun! They made an apple cinnamon upside-down cake with a walnut crunch and caramel buttercream.

But they didn’t just have to make a cake. There was the surprise twist too. This week, they had to make meringue lollipops. Freeze the Day made peppermint lollipops, Festive Friends made peach flower lollipops, and Never Sleigh Never created peaches and cream lollipops.

What did the judges think? The judges thought Never Sleigh Never’s cake was overbaked and that their concept could have used a bit of work. They also couldn’t really see the space monster in the Festive Friends’ cake and had issues with Freeze the Day’s design.

So who won? Shockingly, it was Team Never Sleigh Never. After saying that their cake was overbaked, I was sure they weren’t going to win, but the judges picked them to take the top spot and win the $10,000.

Next week, three new teams of bakers will be headed to the kitchen to make masterpieces that show Santa, Mrs. Clause, and the reindeer as toddlers.
