While the Piecaken is associated most with Thanksgiving, is there ever really a wrong time for a pie inside of a cake? I don’t think so. With the holidays around the corner, it’s just the dessert to show off to your friends and family.

The Piecaken was first created by Zac Young, who you may know as a judge on Halloween Baking Championship on Food Network.

For those who don’t know, a Piecaken is like the Frankenstein’s monster of desserts. It’s a spice cake that is layered with a pecan pie and a pumpkin pie. The whole thing is then covered in buttercream, topped with apple pie filling, and then dusted with cake crumbs along the sides. It is a brick of a dessert.

I was lucky enough to get a sample, and if you are looking for a “light” dessert, this is not for you. It’s heavy just lifting it. But let’s be real, if you were to carry a cake and two pies, you would expect it to have some heft to it.

The Piecaken is an impressive holiday dessert

Beyond the weight, the dessert is absolutely gorgeous. It’s frosted and piped beautifully. And then you cut into it. The bottom is a full-on pecan pie. It’s then topped with a full pumpkin pie and then topped with a spice cake. It’s amazing, but it’s also A LOT of food.

But how does it taste? Every part of the Piecaken is delicious separately, but in terms of texture, I’m not entirely sure the whole thing works together. The pumpkin pie has to be denser than you’d normally want it to be because it’s got to hold up under the weight of the cake. That said, the pecan pie and the cake are perfection. And the apple pie filling on top is just enough tartness to cut through all that sweetness. I just wish there was more of it. It was delicious!

How can you get a Piecaken for yourself? You can get one delivered via Goldbelly! It’s $99.95 with free shipping. If you’re looking for a dessert that will impress pretty much everyone, and you don’t want to make something yourself, the Piecaken is definitely worth giving a shot.
