Breakfast at Taco Bell might be a thing of the past (Here's everything we know)
When most of us think of fast food breakfast, Taco Bell isn't likely the first place to come to mind but the brand has been serving breakfast since 2014.
Since its launch a decade ago, Taco Bell has approved a lot of unique items including breakfast Crunchwraps, Cinnabon iced coffee, and a Waffle Taco, among other innovations. Honestly, it was a way to be alive when it was first launched.
Even though it's been a decade, Taco Bell is beginning to make a shift away from the breakfast market as shared via Eat This, Not That. To put it simply: "Starting in October, Taco Bell franchisees can opt out of selling breakfast..." The brand goes on to say that all Taco Bell locations that are corporate-owned will still serve breakfast. As long as you know which category your local Taco Bell falls in, you'll know if you're safe or not.
This change feels like something that should have come before 2024, but it might be for a few reasons why Taco Bell is making these early-morning changes.
What is to blame for this possible change to Taco Bell menus?
While there isn't one thing to point to, it's clear money is a huge part of this decision and I mean that in two ways. First, it's a financial decision for the franchise. Is it sustainable for the location to serve breakfast? Are they losing money by bringing people in early during breakfast hours? While most of us don't think much about that, it's all part of the bottom line as the owners have to consider their hours of operation, workers, and just what's costing the most money.
As for the other financial reason, I'm sure I speak for a lot of my fellow Taco Bell lovers in bemoaning how expensive fast food has become. Even though I love TB as much as the next Guilty Eater, most of us would rather go for fast food for lunch or dinner. In the morning, we're more focused on either getting to or starting work. Most of us are looking for coffee which isn't Taco Bell's specialty so I can see why some locations would give up on breakfast.
Additionally, Taco Bell has focused more on its lunch/dinner fare including the launch of the Cantina Chicken Menu, the different iterations of Nacho Fries, and the upcoming Baja Blast items. While the brand did mention adding more items to its locations that serve breakfast, most of us are just trying to make it and find a cheap yet filling meal. Right now, fast food just isn't the best option if you're looking to save money.
Eat This, Not That also shared: "Regardless of whether they decide to keep their breakfast selection, all Taco Bell locations will open at 9 a.m. or earlier and serve the rest of the menu." No matter if your location continues to serve breakfast or not, you'll still be able to get a Mountain Dew Baja Blast as soon as they open which is the important thing.
