Burger King announces Million Dollar Whopper Contest, so now everyone else can have it your way

Last week, plans leaked for a brand new Whopper at Burger King: the Candied Bacon Whopper. But, as it turns out, that was just the beginning. And as we speculated here on Guilty Eats, this was just the opening salvo in what is officially called the Million Dollar Whopper Contest, where BK fans can not just win a million bucks – but also might get their Whopper on the menu at Burger King.

“Burger King is all about Having It Your Way, and this contest is a true embodiment of that. More than 50% of Guests customize their Whopper sandwich, and now, the possibilities of what those customizations include are endless,” said Pat O’Toole, Chief Marketing Officer via a press release provided to Guilty Eats. “And, whether or not your Whopper ends up in restaurants nationwide, we’re giving Guests the opportunity to experience and share their creation using the power of A.I. technology.” 

In case you cocked your head like a confused dog about the confluence of A.I. and hamburgers, here’s the deal. Starting today, Burger King fans can visit BK.com/MDW and submit their “dream Whopper sandwich” for a chance at a million-dollar prize. The site includes 200,000 combinations, so chances are that you’ll have it your way, with only a few repetitions. 

Once you design your burger, the site will… Well, let’s let Burger King explain it: “With the power of artificial intelligence (A.I.), they will receive a preview A.I. version of their flame-grilled creation, to which they can then add a personalized A.I. generated-jingle, and a thematic background. The final image or video can then be shared across their social media platforms.”

Er, okay. The better part is later this year judges will select three of the submitted, self-generated Whopper creators to visit BK HQ in Miami, where they can “refine their concepts before they appear on menus nationwide for a limited time.” Burger King guests can then try all three finalists, vote, and the winner will take home $1 million, as well as, of course, the honor of their King. Their Burger King.

Oh, and one last thing… On February 17 and 18, Burger King is taking over the Santa Monica Pier in Los Angeles with “Million Dollar Whopper World,” where you can sample a California-inspired Whopper or create your own Whopper using ingredients that won’t be found in restaurants.

So get cracking, folks. Because you know you’re going to want that million dollars (to spend on Whoppers).

• Burger King fans can visit BK.com/MDW or the BK App (no purchase necessary) to submit their Whopper creation now through Sunday, March 17, using their free Royal Perks account.
• Guests can follow the prompts to submit their Whopper sandwich concept, which can feature up to eight toppings.
• After submitting their Million Dollar Whopper idea contest entry, with the power of artificial intelligence (A.I.), they will receive a preview A.I. version of their flame-grilled creation, to which they can then add a personalized A.I. generated-jingle, and a thematic background. The final image or video can then be shared across their social media platforms.
