Cracker Barrel testing 20 new menu items, but in one state only

Cracker Barrel begins to update the brand.

Not too long ago, an announcement by the Cracker Barrel CEO confirmed that the company was in bad shape. The popular Southern restaurant that has been around for a long time without updating, and was in dire need of a facelift. Flash forward about a month later, and the process has started to kick into high gear with the addition of 20 new menu items.

Available now until August 5 are 20 new items, but only 44 Texas Cracker Barrel locations. The company then aims to assess the response to those options and move forth based on that information.

"For nearly 55 years, guests have known and loved us for our authentic, homestyle cooking, and that's not going away, we've only added more flavor and crave to the menu and made it easier to navigate," said Senior Vice President of Operations, Cammie Spillyards-Schaefer in a press release.

While Cracker Barrel didn't reveal all of the items being tested on the menu, some were highlighted by the company. Here are a few of the food options that were given the spotlight:

  • Hashbrown Casserole Shepherd's Pie
  • Green Chile Cornbread
  • Chicken n' Dumplin Soup
  • Cinnamon Bread French Toast
  • Banana Pudding

In addition, the revamped menu will include Daily Specials including Lemon Pepper Trout n' classic Turnip Greens, Southern BBQ Ribs, or Chicken n' Rice.

If anything on this list sounds intriguing, then be sure to visit Cracker Barrel if you have a test location in the area. As for those who don't -- we can only hope that this test goes well and the brand makes the necessary improvements.

Are there aspects of Cracker Barrel that are great? Yes. Their pancakes are pretty darn delicious, and it's been said the steak is a little tastier when you're on a budget. But in all seriousness, the company must get it together to remain in business.
