Typically, the only time that professional eating receives major attention is during the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest on the Fourth of July. But today, thanks to a special Labor Day event created by Netflix between generational competitive eaters Joey Chestnut and Takeru Kobayashi, the world witnessed an eating spectacle in Vegas.

In a thrilling 10 minutes of hot dog devouring, it was Chestnut who took home the title and $100,000 while consuming 83 dogs during the time frame, surpassing his own world record. On the losing side, Kobayashi finished with 66, falling 17 short of what was necessary to force an overtime.

For Chestnut, the win had to feel good for multiple reasons. The first reason is all the drama that stemmed from him being banned from the Nathan's Hot Dog Contest due to a partnership with a vegan hot dog company. And second, this event was meant to serve as the deciding matchup of who would go down as the GOAT of professional eating.

Now, after Chesnut's record-breaking performance in Vegas, there is no discussion of who the greatest competitive eater is. And for those who say that competitive eating is not a sport, you might want to look at the training regimen these guys go through.

With this rumored to be the end of Kobayashi's career, it is hard not to think about his impact on the sport. Dubbed "the godfather of competitive eating," Kobayashi put the sport on the map with six Nathan's Hot Dog titles and various other eating titles.

What's next for Chestnut remains to be seen. In an interview with US Weekly, he mentioned that there is still the possibility of a return to the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest.

But for now, it is time to take a moment and process what we just saw. Two generational talents in professional eating consumed 149 hot dogs in 10 minutes.
