Fourteen years ago musician Katy Perry released the song “Firework” which became a music chart topper! Coming on the heels of her newest album release, “143”, Perry recently partnered with McConnell’s Ice Cream to create “Baby, You’re a Firework Blue Raspberry” ice cream, a limited edition flavor inspired by her pop hit. This colorful ice cream flavor features “even brighter than the moon” blue raspberry ice cream, “ignite the light” raspberry jam, and “let your colors burst” rainbow sprinkles for an irresistible, sweet treat.

McConnell’s ice cream, more informally known as McC’s has been a local Santa Barbara institution for 70 years. This family-run business has been serving up scoops to SoCal, including California native Katy Perry for years. She grew up enjoying the company’s ice cream with her family and now she is working with them! Like McConnell’s other ice cream flavors, “Baby, You’re a Firework Blue Raspberry” is made with local, sustainable ingredients including fresh raspberries and homemade jam.

If you can’t make it to one of McConnell’s scoop shops, you can pick up a pint at your local grocery store…..if you happen to live near a Gelson’s in Southern California. Unfortunately, the grocery store chain is the only retailer selling pints of this limited edition flavor.

With every purchase of “Baby, You’re a Firework Blue Raspberry” a portion of the proceeds will go to the Firework Foundation. Founded by Katy Perry and her sister, Angela Lerche, this nonprofit’s mission is to “empower children from underserved communities by igniting their inner light through the arts.”

Unfortunately, it looks like I won’t be able to sample Perry’s ice cream collaboration here in New York. However, while perusing the company’s website, I discovered that several of my local grocery stores carry some of McConnell’s other flavors. The Grocery Locator on their site shows which stores near you carry the company’s ice cream and you can also see what flavors that store carries!

Have you ever had McConnell’s ice cream? Will you be trying “Baby, You’re a Firework Blue Raspberry?”
