You’re going to think it’s your birthday after I explain this deal to you, but it’s not*: Krispy Kreme is celebrating 87 years of serving up delicious doughnuts on Friday, July 12 by offering a dozen doughnuts for 87 cents.

(*Unless it is, in which case: happy birthday, from all of us here at Guilty Eats.)

“Treating our fans on our birthday is a long-time tradition,” said Dave Skena, Global Chief Brand Officer for Krispy Kreme via a press release provided to Guilty Eats. “A dozen Original Glazed doughnuts for just 87 cents when you buy any dozen is a sweet way for us to thank our fans who have kept us going all these years.”

As Skena explains helpfully, you do need to buy any dozen doughnuts at the regular price, in order to enjoy your 87 cent dozen. In addition, this deal is limited to two dozen doughnuts purchased in a Krispy Kreme store, or in a drive-through – or one dozen doughnuts if you purchase online for either delivery or pickup. If you do purchase online, use the code BDAY to redeem. You can also use the code in person, but if you whisper “BDAY” to a Krispy Kreme worker, they’re probably going to think you’re whispering “BIDET” and will instead take you to the super-secret bidet room every Krispy Kreme hides behind the doughnut cooker.

This is a joke, I’m joking, there’s no secret bidet room in Krispy Kreme stores. Unless there is, and I’m double joking? No, there’s not, and I am joking.

As the brand explains, Krispy Kreme has been around since 1937 and was founded by Vernon Rudolph. It started as direct sales to grocery stores, but perhaps Rudolph’s greatest innovation was a doughnut hole. Not the hole in a doughnut itself, but he had the idea to cut a hole in a wall where he was making doughnuts, so the sweet, sugary smell could waft outside, drawing over customers. From there, he sold his Original Glazed doughnuts, and whenever that Krispy Kreme red light turns on you know it has the same siren call today as Rudolph’s glorious doughnut hole did back in the day.

So get yourself to Krispy Kreme this Friday to celebrate Rudolph’s creations. And while you’re there, snag some of the new line of Doughnut Dots – or the Kit Kat doughnuts, which are back in stores for a limited time. Just don’t whisper “bidet” to any of the workers, just because you read it here online.
