Krispy Kreme rewards tech outage sufferers with free doughnuts

Earlier today, a global tech outage caused chaos across the world. Flights were grounded, some media outlets went off the air, and many other aspects of daily life were impacted. Yet amidst the calamity caused by failed technology, a beloved doughnut brand named Krispy Kreme embraced the opportunity to bring joy.

Per an Instagram post from the company, one free original glazed doughnut will be given to everyone who visits a location today between 5-7 pm local time. The post also makes light of the situation by referring to the promotion as a "Sweet-ware Update" and an attempt to make their fans happy on a "sour" day.

Although we are Guilty Eats and not GeekSided, it is hard not to think about the ramifications stemming from outages like this. Throughout the year, we saw the massive AT&T outage, among others, that has proven to impact daily life in one way or another. And now we have one that has led to Krispy Kreme creating a special promotion off of it. Who had that on their 2024 bingo card?

Back to the food side because that's what we do -- outages like these also impact food deliveries. How can you put that DoorDash or GrubHub delivery in if all the sites are down? The bottom line is that in today's world, we constantly rely on technology and the Krispy Kreme light to be turned red.

As for Krispy Kreme, they also have a new Paris doughnut release that came out recently ahead of the Paris Olympics. But right now, the only thing that matters is a delicious glazed doughnut to brighten up a day that got off to a strange start.
