While OREO has been on a tear lately with flavors like Churro and Sour Patch Kids, they also regularly release limited edition tie-ins with media properties like Super Mario, Pokémon and more. But their just announced collabo with Lucasfilm might be the best one yet: Star Wars OREOs that symbolize the dark side or the light side of the force… But consumers won’t know which one they’re getting until they open the package.
“Pairing two tremendously loved communities to launch the Star Wars OREO Cookie Packs has been an amazing experience,” said Nicole Fischer, Senior Brand Manager, OREO, US, via a press release provided to Guilty Eats. “We are continuing to make strides to cement our brand’s cultural relevance via strategic collaborations. We hope fans see how much we loved bringing their favorite stories to life, and that they have fun discovering the details we’ve included at every touchpoint.”
As usual with these sorts of OREOs, you’ll get a number of different designs in each package. For this run, they feature original character portraits by Greg Hildebrandt, who has been drawing Star Wars posters since the beginning, way back in 1977.
But in a twist worthy of “I am your father,” each package will feature either red creme cookies – for the Dark Side – or blue creme cookies – for the Light Side – infused with “kyber” sugar crystals, aka the crystals that die-hards know power the lightsabers in the series.
There are 10 light side and 10 dark side characters total, meaning you’ll have to get at least two packs of OREOs to make sure you collect them all (in your mouth). Those characters include:
Dark Side: Darth Vader, Darth Maul, Darth Sidious, Kylo Ren, Boba Fett, Stormtrooper, Jabba The Hutt, General Grevious, Count Dooku, Scout Trooper
Light Side: Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Yoda, Rey, Chewbacca, R2-D2, C-3P0, Mace Windu
The new Star Wars OREOs will join our galaxy near, near to us in a presale starting May 30 at OREO.COM/StarWars, and then hit retailers nationwide on June 10, 2024.
It is just now occurring to me that these could have been called Oreobi-Wan Kenobis. Missed opportunity!
