Popeyes stays gold, Ponyboy, with new Golden BBQ Chicken Sandwich

Popeyes was the early, and arguably still winner of the first round of the Chicken Sandwich Wars that rocked the nation. And now that we are in the midst of Chicken Sandwich War II, Popeyes isn’t resting, and instead launching a new salvo into the conflict with the Golden BBQ Chicken Sandwich.

Here’s how Popeyes describes the new sandwich, via press release:

“Featuring a new sweet and tangy Golden BBQ sauce, this sandwich is sure to amp up your lunch hour. The Golden BBQ Chicken Sandwich features a buttermilk-battered chicken breast made with all white meat in a sweet and tangy Golden BBQ sauce, served on a buttery-toasted brioche bun with barrel-cured pickles.”

That’s all well and good, but how does this differ from the classic Popeyes Chicken Sandwich? Obviously the Golden BBQ sauce is new, but both sammies have the toasted brioche bun and the pickles. The only difference is that the Golden BBQ sandwich has the Golden BBQ sauce; while the regular sandwich has mayo.

So before everyone flips out with excitement, the actual headline here is “Popeyes introduced a new sauce.”

That said, you can also customize the sandwich with Havarti cheese and/or Applewood smoked bacon, which sounds pretty good. But again… You can do the same thing with the regular chicken sandwich.

More unique, though, is what Popeyes is doing to promote the launch. First, for any Popeyes Rewards members, they’ll drop 600 bonus points into your account with any purchase of $10 or more, which can account for a free chicken sandwich (or if you want to use the points otherwise, nobody is going to stop you).

Popeyes has also partnered with New Orleans hip-hop duo SaxKixAve, which I totally have heard of because I am very cool and with it to create a song called “Bring Back Lunch” on TikTok and YouTube but mostly on TikTok, let’s be honest.

The new sauce – sorry, sandwich is in stores now.
