Spring Baking Championship season 10 returned with episode 6, and it was all about prom this week. From dresses to corsages, they covered it all with the challenges and the desserts the bakers had to make inspired by everyone's favorite Senior year (and Junior!) dance.
First up was the Preheat! The bakers were tasked with making corsages out of macarons. They could use whatever flavors they wanted, but it had to look like a corsage at the end... Or at least give off corsage vibes.
While whether they really looked like corsages or not is up for debate, most of the macarons looked great. Rochelle is probably the only one who truly failed in both flavor and design. But who won the first challenge? That was Anna! Her Meyer lemon macrons looked like a bundle of roses. Yes, we will go to prom with you, Anna. Please tie those macarons to my wrist!
Spring Baking Championship's Main Heat brought on prom dress cakes
On to the Main Heat! For this challenge, the remaining bakers had to make tsunami prom dress cakes. If you are on social media, you've likely seen these cakes. They are the ones that let a tsunami of liquid fall down the cake. It's usually done to make it look like a dress or the night sky, but it can really be used for any kind of cake.
The bakers had to choose one of seven flavors: vanilla, lemon, red velvet, orange, chocolate, confetti, and honey. Steven received honey, Alex got confetti, Katelyn picked red velvet, Nickey received chocolate, Robert got vanilla, and Anna picked lemon. Oh, and the twist was that they had to include fruit punch in their cake. They were not happy with that new flavor addition, to say the least. Since Anna won the first challenge, she did not have to include the fruit punch flavor in her cake.
Most of these dress cakes turned out amazing! Considering they only had 90 minutes to make the cake and the tsunami glaze and put it all together, it was pretty impressive that there weren't more missteps. That said, Anna made the biggest mistake. The judges didn't love the flavor of her cake and her tsunami glaze was way too stiff and didn't fall effortlessly over the cake.
On the other hand, Rochelle won the judges over with her red, yellow, and orange prom dress cake. it looked gorgeous and the judges loved the taste. She totally made up for the first challenge. It was no surprise that Rochelle ended up winning the Main Heat.
And it was also not a surprise that Anna was the one to go home, either. When most of the other bakers did so well, she stood out as the worst -- despite winning the Preheat challenge.
Next week, the remaining bakers will have to make petit fours for a tea party and create a May Pole shortcake wreath. In the meantime, we'll be in the limo on the way home, thinking about those delectable corsages and "dress" cakes.
