Taco Bell Tuesday: Why have Cheez-Its taken the spotlight from Doritos?

Taco Bell is going all-in with Cheez-It, seemingly forgetting Doritos.

The hot topic at Taco Bell is the new collaboration with Cheez-It, and rightfully so. We're talking about a Cheez-It 16 times its normal size! And that's cool. However, it does shine a light on how Doritos have been unfairly shunted to the side.

Whether you're someone who has been a long-time Taco Bell fan or just recently started eating at the chain, you'll know that Doritos Locos Tacos are a staple on the menu. Not only can you get the Nacho Cheese version as a single taco, but also in a combo with 3 tacos and a beverage of your choice.

Years ago, Taco Bell offered a Cool Ranch version which could be brought back via fan vote, and there was even a Fiery option for those wanting some extra spice. It was truly a great time to be both a fan of Doritos and Taco Bell.

But given how much excitement Taco Bell is putting behind this Cheez-It collaboration, it begs the question: why aren't we getting more items featuring Doritos?

Has Taco Bell forgotten just how great Doritos are?

Let me start by saying that I'm not hating on the new Cheez-It items. If anything, I'm excited to give them a try. However, it does feel weird to have Taco Bell introducing an LTO (limited-time offer) item that doesn't generally scream Taco Bell.

The lack of new Doritos items is staggering considering they're all so tasty. You can get the Doritos Locos Taco as regular or supreme, or you can get one as part of your Cheesy Gordita Crunch. That's all well and good, but why not extend the line further?

Rather than giving us a large Cheez-It Tostada, Taco Bell could have given us Nachos Bell Grande, but made with Doritos. Considering how popular walking tacos are, this feels like a no-brainer. The brand could even give us an option to get a Doritos-flavored shell inside of our Crunchwraps. I don't know about you, but I feel like that would take the flavor to the next level as Crunchwraps are already so good. And talking about Tostadas, Taco Bell could make a tostada but instead of using a regular shell, they could use a Dorito shell instead - rather than the large Cheez-It they gave us.

The other question I have for Taco Bell is why not branch out when it comes to Doritos? Yes, Nacho Cheese is the classic but why not include other flavors? Cool Ranch is always a great pick but that's not the only option, either. There's Spicy Sweet Chili, Salsa Verde, and Spicy Nacho any of which would no doubt get fans in the door.

Anecdotally, no one is loving the Cheez-It items as much as TB thought. So our humble suggestion? Ditch the large Cheez-It, and bring on the Doritos.
