Does the Replenish electrolyte hydration beverage really taste like 7-Eleven's trademark Slurpee?

There is only one 7-Eleven Slurpee, right? That may not be the case at least for a limited time as 7-Eleven has introduced a limited edition Replenish sports drink in a Slurpee mash up flavor.

This seemed too confusing for us to comprehend, so we were "forced" to drive to our local 7-Eleven and buy a 28-oz bottle of the Replenish Electrolyte Hydration Beverage, claiming to taste like a mixture of a cherry and blue raspberry Slurpee.

To compare, we helped ourselves to a large Slurpee, creating entertaining swirls of red and blue in the cup.

What the taste test revealed

The Replenish drink contains 15 grams of sugar and 60 calories in each 12 fl. oz serving. There are flavor notes of cherry and blue raspberry, but it tastes sweeter than a Slurpee. It almost tastes like liquid fruit snacks, if that makes sense.

The geniune Slurpee has a more bitter taste, which isn't really bitter, but is best described as less sweet than the Replenish bottled beverage.

This could be attributed to the consistency of the two drinks. The Replenish is a typical liquid drink, whereas the Slurpee has an icy consistency similar to Tropical Smoothie.

While we would choose the Slurpee straight out of the machine anytime, the Replenish would work in a pinch especially if there was no time to enjoy the Slurpee immediately.

The Replenish does contain nutrients consistent with other electrolyte beverages. It contains 100% of Vitamins A, E, B6, along with Niacin and Pantothenic Acid. That might mean it is healthier, especially if you jog to your local 7-Eleven and need nutrients to replenish the sweat.

For those watching sugar intake, 7-Eleven (which also owns Speedway and offers the same product assortment) has sugar-free Slurpee and Replenish flavors, but not in a mixed cherry and blue raspberry flavor.

Despite serious pleas to make it permanent, the Slurpee mash-up Replenish drink is only here for a limited time, so grab one as soon as possible.
