If you enjoy making quick seafood dishes at home, you’re probably familiar with SeaPak’s lineup. From Popcorn Shrimp to Clam Strips and other ocean-inspired offerings, the brand is a go-to for convenient seafood meals.
With Cajun-style flavors growing in popularity, SeaPak recently introduced its Cajun Style Shrimp. Thanks to the company, I had the chance to try it early.
SeaPak's Cajun Style Shrimp is a bit too salty for me
Before diving into my full review, here’s a look at what makes this shrimp “Cajun-style.” The shrimp is seasoned with a New Orleans spice blend featuring salt, black pepper, cayenne pepper, and garlic. It’s then coated in butter, which melts as the shrimp cooks, blending with the seasonings.
Based on the description, I expected this to be a delicious new addition to SeaPak’s lineup. I cooked the shrimp and paired it with rice and broccoli.
After taking one bite, I was instantly overwhelmed by the amount of sodium that filled my mouth. Yes, I assumed it would be a little salty when you consider the spice mix listed above, but nothing could prepare my taste buds for the overload of salt that came from this.
The shrimp itself was juicy, which was a plus, but the excessive sodium overpowered the flavors and took away from the overall experience.
Final Thoughts
Do I still enjoy SeaPak’s other offerings? Absolutely. This is the first time I haven’t enjoyed a product from the brand. I should also note that I can be sensitive to sodium, so others may not find the Cajun Style Shrimp overpowering.
Personally, I’d prefer the new Louisiana-Style Shrimp Skillet from Cracker Barrel’s spring menu.
