As the temps rise, there’s nothing like a big scoop of ice cream to cool off and Tillamook is offering some delicious new options. The company recently debuted two new limited-edition flavors that they sent me to sample. Guess what? You’ll want to try them too!
Tillamook was founded in 1909 as a farmer-owned cooperative. The company makes all things dairy including butter, yogurt, sour cream and, of course, cheese. But today, we are focused on their innovative ice cream. Tillamook’s ice cream is sold in pints and 1.5 quarts and there are over 25 different flavors!
Two new flavors, Salty Caramel Pretzel and Apple Crisp, are the newest limited-edition releases, temporarily joining the line up. Both flavors are available only in the family-sized, 1.5 quart containers.
Unlike many ice cream brands on the market, you will not find any “frozen dairy desserts” produced by Tillamook. The first four ingredients of both new flavors are cream, skim milk, sugar and milk. Always make sure your ice cream is actually ice cream.
Salty Caramel Pretzel and Apple Crisp join the Tillamook ice cream line up for a limited time.

Salty Caramel Pretzel has ribbons of salted caramel and chocolate covered pretzel pieces swirled into salted caramel flavored ice cream. There were ample amounts of caramel and pretzel pieces throughout.
As summer quickly approaches, I was a bit skeptical of the seasonality of Apple Crisp ice cream. However, I shouldn’t have been. While I mistakenly presumed the flavor screamed "autumn", Tillamook's offering was a tasty summer treat: a buttery oat and apple streusel with a scoop of creamy vanilla ice cream on top. Of course, it's all mixed together in the container, but you can imagine they were inspired by homemade desserts served on a sunny day.
In a recent press release, Hunter Clayton, Senior R&D Associate Scientist at TCCA noted: “To create the Apple Crisp flavor, we used a recipe from my mother as a base to help us translate apple crisp into ice cream. We all know the smell and unforgettable taste of a warm apple crisp, and what better way to tap into that nostalgia than a homemade recipe."
Both flavors were super creamy and full of vibrant flavor. You didn't have to go digging for the good stuff either. The ratio of ice cream base to mix-ins was well distributed. Neither choice was too sweet or cloying. If you like a salty-sweet combo then Salty Caramel Pretzel is right up your alley. Those who appreciate a little bit of fruit in the mix might prefer Apple Crisp.
So where can you pick up these two new Tillamook ice cream flavors? Many Kroger, Albertsons, Safeway, Publix will carry these flavors. I’ve purchased Tillamook ice cream at my local Shoprite and Stop & Shop, but wasn't able to find these particular flavors in store.
If these two new limited-edition flavors prove to be popular, they may end up joining the core line, like Orange & Cream and Campfire Peanut Butter Cup. These previously limited-edition flavors were so popular that Tillamook ended up adding them to the core line and you can now find them year-round. But, for now, expect them to be available for about six months.
