#1. Put your thumbprint in
It all starts with a thumbprint. Burgers will shrink when they’re cooked, so it’s important to indent your thumbprint just to make sure the burger remains well-shaped when cooking. Pop it right in the middle of the burger and make your mark.
#2. Get your grill super hot
Now it’s time to put your burgers on the BBQ or grill. Don’t do this until your grill is as hot as possible. Putting burgers on earlier will slow cook them, so you end up with burnt edges and soft middles. They’re just not that great!

#3. Know how you like your burgers
Not everyone wants a well-done burger. Some like their food slightly on the rare side. This is where cooking times come into play.
The best rule of thumb is to go up in increments for cooking time depending on the preferences. A medium burger is usually three minutes on each side.
#4. Top with cheese on the grill
Once you’ve done the three minutes on each side, top the burger with cheese. Leave the burger on the heat just to let the cheese melt into the meat before you place it all in the bun.
Now it’s all about the toppings. Enjoy!
